1. The album kicks off with a rollicking version of "Mule Skinner Blues" that has White's Telecaster crackling and popping and Greene's fiddle propelling this classic along at lightning speed. Several songs are taken from Bill Monroe's repertoire. (Not surprising since both Rowan and Greene played with the master in the mid-Sixties.)/5(8).

2. Mar 11,  · Up on the Mountain, Vol. 2 draws from collections of '50s and '60s bluegrass released on the Rural Rhythm imprint and serves as a sampler for the label. A mix of instrumentals and vocal tracks, the disc features no household names -- Don Reno and Red Smiley are the closest -- but does feature wall-to-wall solid bluegrass pickin'. Some of the highlights are Earl Taylor and Jim McCall's.

4. This is a must-have CD to hear some of the acoustic, bluegrass "superstars" like Clarence White and David Grisman. I used to have the vinyl LP and played it hard. So nice to have it back again. High powered Muleskinner Blues with Clarence string bending Telecaster and Richard Greene absolutely ripping it up on fiddle. Good stuff/5(8).
